Spread Love, not hate

Sorry for the lack of recent updates lately -- first week of school and I'm barely keeping my head above water with all the reading and such that goes along with that -- more to come in a later post (as the topics I'm covering are very interesting)

Anyhow - just wanted to post a little video that I think is something important to watch (especially considering recent "news events")  I don't think there is any more to be said, so watch and ponder....and let me know what you think.

More thoughts on Dangerous Drivers

The other day , Edmonton Oiler's goalie Khabibulin was found guilty of DUI.  His sentence a mere 30 days in jail -- but like the many famous people before him, he's going to appeal and somehow get away with it.  My question is Why?  Why do we let the people that we "idolize" or are "great role-models" get away with crap like this.  The guy was DRUNK and decided to get behind the wheel and drive.  I say - Suck it up and suffer the consequences of your idiotic actions!  It's not as if the guy didn't have enough money, or someone who wasn't wasted out of their mind to drive.  Nope, he chose that path, let him accept the consequences along with it.

The thing is, I think that we are much too weak on drivers.  Remember a while back when I'd posted about the young man that was killed behind my house in a horrific accident.  I wasn't sure whether the driver had been texting when I first wrote that post, but it was later found not to be true according to her cell phone records.  I wonder what it was that she was so distracted by though.  There were NO brake marks.  The truck, with a big arrow on top of it warning drivers to change lanes, surrounded by pylons that the poor kid was picking up -- and there was no evidence that the driver attempted to stop.  How sad is that?

Wait, it gets worse -- she was sentenced a few months ago.  Wanna know the horrible penalty that she received?  A $2,000 fine and a 3 month driving suspension.   She killed a person because she was too distracted and that's her penalty?

It just bothers me so much that things like this are seen as accidents.  That's horrible.  To me, and accident implies something that was destined...fate.  This, in my opinion, is not that type of situation.  Khabibulin, Paris Hilton, Mel Gibson, Lindsay Lohan -- these and many more famous people go around portraying this dangerous behaviour as something that's acceptable -- which it shouldn't be.  They all made a choice -- as much as that woman who hit that poor kid -- they made a choice to get into their cars rather than call for a cab, or, in the case of the "distracted" driver, pay attention.  You are driving a 3000 pound machine - YOU CAN KILL PEOPLE.

When will the rest of the world pay attention?  I can't be the only one who sees this!

An Anti-Rape Condom??

Okay, this is not a joke -- it's an actual, honest-to-God product that someone has made.  Here's the link to the story.  If you don't want to click, here's the gist.

The woman inserts the latex condom like a tampon. Jagged rows of teeth-like hooks line its inside and attach on a man's penis during penetration...[o]nce it lodges, only a doctor can remove it -- a procedure Ehlers hopes will be done with authorities on standby to make an arrest.
"It hurts, he cannot pee and walk when it's on," she said. "If he tries to remove it, it will clasp even tighter... however, it doesn't break the skin, and there's no danger of fluid exposure."

Though I think that a little pain is only deserved by a man who rapes a woman, I see far too many flaws with this.

First, isn't rape usually an unexpected event??  I mean, are you supposed to say to your assailant, "Please wait one moment while I insert this penis stabbing female condom."  I don't think so.

Second - in order for this thing to work, you still have to be raped.  Sure, there's a minor bit of justice, but the deed is still done.

Third - when are you going to get that wicked, twisted woman who's mad at her boyfriend/husband for whatever reason and uses this as a way to "get back" at him.

The idea is interesting, her intentions are wonderful, but I'm not convinced that this is a great answer to a horrible problem.

Come to St.Albert - where the Rich folks are!

Yup – that was my immediate though as soon as the news began publicizing the protests about the building of a Habitat for Humanity project.

"St.Albert – where we’re better than you because we have money – because everyone knows that when you have money, you don’t have problems like drugs or crime or abuse. The police never need to come to a rich person’s neighbourhood and the IQs of their children are proportionate to their income." That's not a quote -- just the vibe them Rich Folks are sending us lowly scum of the population.

This is just sick to me. I used to live in St.Albert and found it quite nice -- in fact, if I could pack up and move, I'd like to move there again. I want to make it clear that not ALL people of St.Albert are racist bigots...just the select few, I'd say it's limited to the fools who write to the St.Albert Gazette and the idiots who stormed the city council to protest the development.

What do you think?

This car accident happened just BLOCKS from my home. It is terrifying and sad.

It happened more than 6 months ago, but from the first day I saw it, I knew that the driver had to be either texting or talking on her cell phone. This road, 3 lanes, is clear. That truck surrounded by pylons was about 1/2 km from the lights where this woman came from. tell me HOW you could not have seen that. It's a big white truck, surrounded by bright orange pylons and workers in reflective gear.

The poor kid was (or nearly was) cut into two. He stood no chance. Yet, the woman was (apparently) seen still freaken texting when she got out of the car. She (apparently) didn't even know she had just KILLED someone.

This is pathetic, beyond anything that I can even say. Pathetic.

Oops -- just wanted to add the newest info on this story.
